In addition to land-based sporting activities such as horse riding and mountain biking, Africa's beaches and lakes also offers a wide range of water sports.

Africa offers numerous opportunities for the water sports enthusiast (in addition to the freshwater and deep sea fishing).  Its warm sea waters are ideal for swimming, where snorkelling and SCUBA Diving probably come at the top of the list of attractions.  Most beach lodges will provide free snorkelling gear and most are located near to a PADI dive centre to brush up on your skills or try diving for the first time.

Windsurfing, kitesurfing, water-skiing, parasailing, canoeing and kayaking are further water-based activities that are available in Africa's waters, both inland and on the coast, together with white water rafting - at a particularly dramatic level on Zambia's Lower Zambezi River, just below the Victoria Falls.  Alternately, and on Zanzibar in particular, time at a beach resort could focus on a more leisurely dhow cruise, or more conventional boat trip.

Finally dolphin spotting excursions can also include actually swimming alongside these gentle creatures -  a treat not to be missed.
