Nigeria is situated at the extreme inner corner of the Gulf of Guinea on the west coast of Africa. It borders with Chad to the northeast, Cameroon to the east, Benin to the west, Niger to the northwest and by the Atlantic Ocean (Gulf of Guinea) to the south. The Niger, the third largest river in Africa, enters Nigeria from the north west running in a south easterly direction.

Nigeria’s economy is one of the fastest growing in the world and is the second largest in Africa. It has the highest population of all African countries and is the eighth most populous in the world. So far as its image in the Western world is concerned, however, corruption, ethnic violence and email scams dominate.

Nevertheless as a travel destination Nigeria offers a wide variety of tourist attractions such as extended and roomy river and ocean beaches ideal for swimming and other water sports, unique wildlife, vast tracts of unspoiled nature ranging from tropical forest to magnificent waterfalls. However it is difficult to get particularly enthusiastic about holidaying here.
