Zambia

Zambia is a land-locked country situated in the centre of the ‘safari belt’, and bordered by Angola to the West, Democratic Republic of the Congo to the North, Tanzania to the North-East, Malawi to the East, and Botswana, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe to the South.

Known as Northern Rhodesia since early in the last century, the country secured independence from the British in 1964, when its name was officially changed to Zambia, under the leadership of Kenneth Kaunda. Although its economic success was originally founded on copper mining, agriculture and tourism are now its major earners.

As a tourist destination Zambia reigns supreme, with its attractions including Victoria Falls, the mighty Zambezi River, and a number of Africa’s finest game parks, with probably the best-known lying in the renowned Luangwa Valley.

Occupied, as it is, by dozens of non-competing tribes, Zambia is probably one of Africa’s safest destinations, a real pleasure to visit. Zambia is, beyond doubt, AfricaAway’s premier tourist destination.
