Togo

Situated on the west coast of Africa, Togo has land boundaries with Burkina Faso to the north, Benin to the east, Ghana to the west, and the south is bordered with the Atlantic Ocean’s Gulf of Guinea. Historically Togo was principally associated with Africa’s infamous slave trade, and indeed became generally known as the "Slave Coast”. In 1905, Togo became the German colony of Togoland, but after Germany was defeated during World War I, British and French factions soon administered this land, followed by its obtaining its independence (from France) in 1960.

Togo has a number of attractions for international travellers who enjoy animals in the wild, nature at its best, and the beauty of tropical forests, not to mention some interesting beaches. Thus the country has three national parks, ten faunal reserves and 84 forest reserves. However it can hardly claim to represent one of Africa’s prime tourist destinations.
