Details

Somalia is situated on the horn of East Africa and is bordered by the Gulf of Aden and Djibouti to the north, the Indian Ocean to the east and south, to the north and northwest by Ethiopia and by Kenya to the southwest.

Historically, Britain withdrew from British Somaliland in 1960 in order to allow its protectorate to join with Italian Somaliland and form the new nation of Somalia. Thirty years later, its existing regime was overthrown and Somalia descended into decades of turmoil, factional fighting and anarchy.  In the southern and central parts of the country, conflict continues between government troops and extremist Islamist militants with links to al-Qaeda.

From a tourism point of view, we can only comment that Somalia is one of those countries that you wouldn’t even want to visit on a map!
