Details

Rwanda is a landlocked country surrounded by Uganda in the north, Tanzania in the east, Burundi in the south, and the Democratic Republic of Congo to its west and northwest.

Together with neighbouring Burundi, Rwanda became notorious for the extreme genocide that resulted from the conflict between its Tutsi and Hutu peoples at the end of the last century.

Remarkably, under President Kagame’s leadership, the country has made a remarkable recovery and is now considered to be a model for developing countries, having achieved stability, international integration and economic growth.

The current government is regarded as one of the most efficient and honest in Africa, and Rwanda itself is now regarded as the safest country in East and Central Africa, although we consider that it is still best to avoid its border areas!

Although Rwanda is a lush country of endless mountains and stunning scenery, the shores of Lake Kivu also containing some of the best inland beaches on the continent, it is its being home to the world’s last remaining mountain gorillas that draws visitors to Rwanda.

Thus, although Rwanda is not a country in which we offer a general tourism product, we can arrange for our guests to visit here – possibly as an extension to a game-viewing safari in Tanzania – in order to experience a few days’ gorilla trekking.
