The Bushbuck is a medium sized antelope a little shorter than the Impala. Their colour varies from dark brown to light chestnut, the females being lighter than the males. Both males and females have a white patch on the throat and a white band at the base of the neck. White spots and narrow white stripes decorate the thighs and belly. Only the males have horns, which are spiralled and roughly parallel.
In the South Luangwa Valley, the Bushbuck is often spotted, although
being a solitary animal and preferring to inhabit areas of dense cover,
they may not be seen as much as the other antelope, such as Impala or Puku. They browse on foliage and fruit, and have sometimes be known
to spend quite a while under the Sausage Tree, feeding on the falling
blossom.
