Zambezi Safaris
3-4 nights from £512
The Lower
Zambezi National Park is reached by a short plane journey from Lusaka
(or Livingstone), and its setting, bordering a long stretch of the awesome
Zambezi river, is unbeatable. The game viewing and opportunities for walking
in the bush are similar to those experienced in South Luangwa, but the principal
reason for visiting this area is the ability to undertake the various river-based
activities that this location provides. These include river
cruises (
)
in the boats, canoeing (
),
using the type of two or three seater canoes, and fishing. We separately
offer a serious fly
fishing itinerary, involving both the Upper and Lower Zambezis, and
dedicated two or three day canoeing safaris can also be undertaken. The itineraries
described in this section are designed to give a broader range of experiences
in this beautiful habitat. The prices quoted are all high season prices,
and, where applicable, the cost of a return flight to Lusaka or Livingstone
– ~£150 per person – should also be included.
Lower
Zambezi Taster - 3 nights for a total of £512 per person
From
Lusaka a short flight takes you to the Royal Zambezi airstrip close
to the western border of the Lower Zambezi National Park. On reaching
the banks of the mighty River Zambezi you will spend two nights
at Kanyemba
River Lodge. The Lodge is actually situated 45 km to the west
of the Lower
Zambezi National Park, but game viewing, walking and river-based
activities (especially fishing) are at least equal to those encountered
well within the Park itself. You will then travel by boat (you
can also canoe (down river), if you prefer) to your final night’s
destination at the elegant Kasaka
River Lodge, before transferring back to Lusaka by air.
Kasaka camp itself is only 4 km from the entrance to the National
Park, and is situated on the opposite side of the river to the
famed Mana Pools World Heritage Site in Zimbabwe.
Lower
Zambezi Exploration – 5 nights for a total of £1369 per person
From
Lusaka a short flight takes you to the Royal Zambezi airstrip close to the
western border of the Lower Zambezi National Park. From here it is a short
drive to Chongwe
River Camp, where you will spend your first two nights. Chongwe is located
in the Game Management Area (GMA) just to the west of the Park, and offers the
usual activities to be found in this region – game viewing, walking, fishing,
canoeing and river cruises. An exciting boat (or can you also canoe – downstream)
trip takes you to Mwambashi
Camp where you will spend your next night. A similar transfer then takes
you on to either Ana
Tree Lodge or Kulefu (depending
on preference and availability), towards the eastern end of the Park, still further
down river. You will spend your last two nights here, finally returning to Lusaka
by air from the new Kulefu airstrip, having covered virtually the full extent
of the Lower Zambezi National Park in this way.
Lower
Zambezi in Style – 6 nights for a total of £1858 per person

Tree Camp, or to the similarly top-rated Chiawa
Camp, according to preference and availability. A similar journey the next
day takes you to their jointly owned Old
Mondoro bush camp – a totally different experience. A similar transfer
then takes you on to Kulefu,
towards the eastern end of the Park, further down river. You will spend your
last two nights here, finally returning to Lusaka by air from the new Kulefu
airstrip, having covered virtually the full extent of the Lower Zambezi National
