Victoria Falls & Livingstone
2-3 nights from £268 (+ excursions)
The main focus of a visit to Livingstone is, of course, the truly magnificent sight of the Victoria Falls. However there is much more to do in the area of Livingstone generally, as a glance at the page of our website devoted to excursions in and around Livingstone will reveal.
There is no better place to stay here than the Zambezi Sun Hotel if you want to give yourself the best opportunity to make several visits to the Falls, since this hotel is located only a short walk from the entrance to the Falls’ viewing area, and you are free to make as many visits as you choose. There are other (and cheaper) places to stay, but visiting the Falls generally involves a specific guided tour, with its associated time pressures and inflexibility. The prices quoted are all high season prices, and the cost of a return flight to Lusaka – ~ £150 per person – plus road transfers within the Livingstone area should also be included. You will also need to add the cost of any excursions that you choose to take.
Visit
Victoria Falls – 2 nights for a total of £268 per person (+ excursions)
A
short flight from Lusaka takes you to Livingstone International airport, a
half hour drive from the Falls themselves and the Zambezi
Sun Hotel, where you will stay for both nights. Depending on your time
of arrival it is possible to make the transfer to the Zambezi Sun into an extended
game drive within the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park. This smallest of Zambia
’s national parks contains an abundance of game, including many elephants,
no predators, BUT the only opportunity that you will get in Zambia to see the
(white) rhino. So this is well worth the visit.
The
Livingstone Experience –
3 nights for a total of £504 per person (+ excurs.)
As
with the itinerary above, a short flight from Lusaka takes you to Livingstone
International airport, a half hour drive from the Falls themselves and the Zambezi
Sun Hotel, where you will spend your first two nights. Depending on your
time of arrival it is possible to make the transfer to the Zambezi Sun into
an extended game drive within the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park. This smallest
of Zambia ’s national parks contains an abundance of game, including many elephants,
no predators, BUT the only opportunity that you will get in Zambia to see the
(white) rhino. So this is well worth the visit.
In addition to viewing the Falls it is also possible to take a number of excursions, such as visiting Livingstone’s colourful Maramba Market, the ancient Mukuni Village, or just simply indulging in one of the several adrenalin activities that take place a short distance down the Batoka Gorge, below the Falls, and the Zambezi Sun will remain your base for taking these excursions, although you will undoubtedly take the opportunity to make at least one more trip to view the Falls, in addition to experiencing an unforgettable sunset cruise on the Upper Zambezi River
On the morning of your third day you can either take one of the excursions that you haven’t already taken (allowing a more leisurely approach to these latter), or a drive through the Mosi-oa-Tunya Park, if not already taken, before heading to Songwe Village Camp, which is situated high up above the Batoka Gorge itself. Songwe is modelled on a traditional African village and staying here is a marvellous experience (even if you don’t yield to the temptation to take a sunset bath, gin & tonic to hand). The following morning you can be taken by bullock cart to study some of the historical sites in the vicinity, or you can visit the true Songwe Craft Village itself, before taking your early afternoon flight back to Lusaka.
