GET THE MOST FROM AFRICA

One of the reasons we think Africa is one of the best holiday destinations in the world is the wide range of destinations within the continent for the discerning traveller. From the unparalleled game-viewing that Zambia offers, through the breath-taking scenery of Kenya's Rift valley, to the unbeatable beach experience that Zanzibar provides.

For more information on a particular country, either select from the drop-down menu above, click on a location on the map below or select a panel from the list at the bottom of the page.

Interactive Africa Map

We have created this interactive Google-map based guide to the principal safari destinations in Africa. Simply click on one of the highlighted areas for more information on each. You can also scroll around the map and zoom in or out using the keys in the bottom left hand corner of the map.

Main Safari Destinations

Zambia

Zambia is probably our favourite safari destination in Africa, combining a wide variety of activities, great wildlife viewing and top notch accommodation and guiding. Organising some epic walking safaris here is our particular forte.

Tanzania

Tanzania comes a very close second to Zambia in our list of top African safari destinations, while its diversity of habitat is unrivalled. Again, game viewing and walking top the list of its attractions, but there is very much more besides.

Kenya

Once you get away from the main tourist areas, Kenya offers unparalled opportunities to sample the 'Real Africa', amidst some amazing scenery.

AfricaAway has also pioneered serious walking safaris here.

Botswana

Botswana offers the very best wildlife viewing and accommodation, but it does come at a price.

Don't miss the spectacular Okavango Delta - a unique inland waterway.

Other Safari Destinations

South Africa

Sanitised and luxurious game lodges, rather than intimate bush camps set in genuine wilderness.

A great destination, but not one that we ourselves promote.

Namibia

A somewhat specialised safari destination, of haunting beauty and enigmatic experiences.

Not really a first-time safari destination though.

Malawi

A safari destination of the future, as Malawi steadily develops its tourism potential.

Lake Malawi provides an unusual inland beach option, with which to round off your trip.

Zimbabwe

What can we say about Zimbabwe, its tourism ruined by its political leadership? What a tragedy for this once wonderful safari destination.

However the area around Victoria Falls is still worth a visit.

Beach Destinations

Zanzibar

For us, Zanzibar represents the very best in Indian Ocean beach destinations, based on beach quality, price and variety of activities.

Many of our safari guests choose to end up their trip with a few days spent here.

Mozambique

Luxurious and exclusive beach lodges are turning Mozambique into an up-and-coming destination.

Its one drawback is that it is one not especially convenient to get to from elsewhere in Africa.

Seychelles

The very definition of a picture-postcard destination, the countless talc-white sands and turquoise waters of the Seychelles make this an ideal honeymoon destination.

Again, though, it is more difficult to reach than, say, Zanzibar.

Mauritius

Mauritius is a fascinating slice of paradise, conjuring up images of tropical luxury and stupendous extravagance.

It is replete with historic sights, cultural diversity, and almost limitless activities.
